Indoor timber fretwork brings period detail to hallways, doorways and archways in Victorian, Federation and Edwardian homes across Melbourne and Victoria. Manufacturing since 1984 as part of the Karem Woodcraft group, Classic Woodturning makes internal decorative fretwork panels and timber screens that soften an opening and carry the heritage character of a home from the verandah through to the interior. In inner-city terraces and grand period homes alike, a fretwork archway panel is often the detail that signals a genuine restoration.

Indoor fretwork is made from select timbers suited to internal finishing, ready to stain to show off the grain or paint to match existing joinery and cornices. Because it is not exposed to weather, we can use finer, more decorative timbers than an outdoor run would allow. Panels and screens can also divide a hallway or dress a stairwell landing without blocking the light.

Each panel is made to order to fit your span, so it sits cleanly within an existing archway or frames a new doorway.
