Timber Gable Infill

Timber gable infill is the decorative fretwork, panelling and bracketry that fills the triangular gable of a period home, and it is one of the defining features of Victorian and Federation architecture. Classic Woodturning has been manufacturing heritage timber components since 1984, and from our Bayswater workshop in Melbourne's east we make gable infill panels, spandrels and brackets to suit rooflines across Victoria. Every element is made to order so the pattern, timber and scale sit correctly within your gable.

Gable infill has to fit the exact triangle of your gable, so accurate measurements matter: we need the span across the base, the rise to the apex and the pitch, or a template if the shape is irregular. We build in weather-ready timbers suited to exterior exposure and can supply the work raw, primed or finished. Fretwork and spandrel patterns can be turned or cut to a standard design or drawn up from scratch to suit the era of the house.

Original gable infill often weathers, warps or disappears in later renovations, so our matching service is well used by heritage builders and homeowners restoring period detail. From an ornate Victorian terrace in Fitzroy to a Federation bungalow in the eastern suburbs or a farmhouse in country Victoria, we replicate the design from a photo or a salvaged fragment so the new timber gable infill looks original.
